Water for improved rural livelihoods

Water plays an important role in ensuring equitable, sustainable and productive rural economies. In addition to being an essential element for agricultural production, nutrition and human health, water enables job opportunities in numerous key sectors across the rural economy.

ILO

A new Policy Guidance Note outlines the main aspects linking water with rural development and employment, and highlights the approach of the International Labour Organization (ILO) to some key policy issues related to the topic. These include investments for water infrastructure; water governance; water and working conditions; and the links between water-related skills, innovation and decent job creation.
