Regional preparatory meetings for UN 2023 Water Conference

On 20 December 2018, the General Assembly adopted the resolution on the “Midterm comprehensive review of the implementation of the International Decade for Action, ‘Water for Sustainable Development’, 2018-2028” (A/RES/73/226).

The resolution calls for a Conference on to be convened in New York from 22 to 24 March 2023, the UN 2023 Water Conference - the first of its kind since 1977.

Both the preparatory process and the Conference itself will seek to shine the spotlight on commitments that create impact and set a clear agenda for the second half of the Decade and beyond until 2030, while promoting a longer-term approach and perspective, going beyond 2030.

Regional Commissions have been invited to provide regional inputs to the United Nations 2023 Water Conference by the end of June 2022. These inputs aim to reflect the diversity of views and experiences from the regions. This is a list of upcoming preparatory meetings of Regional Commissions:

Briefing to Member States on the UN 2023 Water Conference 

The co-hosts of the UN 2023 Water Conference, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Netherlands, with support of UN-DESA and UN-Water, will also co-organize an in-person Member States briefing in New York on the UN 2023 Water Conference on Tuesday, 12 April 2022, from 10:00AM - 1:00PM (EST).
