Reducing industrial water consumption in Tunisia

Globally, industry is responsible for 22% of all water use. As more countries industrialize, demand is expected to increase significantly.

In order to protect water resources for future generations, UNIDO works to assist developing countries with the transfer of best available technologies and environmental practices to improve industrial water management and productivity.

Trough a series of business networking events organized by UNIDO, new technical cooperation agreement was made between companies. In one case resulting in new technologies reducing the consumption of water by 98%, electricity by 47% and chemicals by 50%, and eliminating the waste and wastewater treatment associated with chemical and water usage because of its zero discharge process.
